Dispensing

NHS charges

Charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC. Telephone advice and order line 0845 850 0030.

There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website.

We are a Dispensing Practice

Many of our patients will be able to see the doctor and collect their medication all in one visit to the surgery. Regulations do not allow us to offer this service to patients living within one mile (1.6 kilometres) in a straight line of a chemist/pharmacy shop (this mainly affects patients in Spencers Wood, Three Mile Cross and Shinfield).

The dispensary is open for the collection of prescriptions and medication between 8:30am and 6:30pm Monday to Friday.

The dispensary can also be contacted by phone (0118 988 3459). Phone lines are open from 14:00 – 15:00, Mon to Fri for patients who are unable to access repeat ordering via online means. Alternate methods for ordering your repeat medications can be found in the Prescriptions and Medicines Centre section of this website.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
